The Great Swiftness was inspired by the bold, abstract curves of La Grande Vitesse, Alexander Calder’s monumental sculpture in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.
It was commissioned by the Grand Rapids Symphony and premiered in 2010 with John Varineau conducting.
