This piece started out as an exercise in two-voice counterpoint but quickly grew into an unwieldy virtuoso showpiece. The pianist’s right and left hands spend a lot of time and energy chasing each other up and down the keyboard in an ultimately futile but hopefully entertaining attempt to sync up with one another.
Sync Up was commissioned by the William Kapell Piano Foundation.
